With any vacation, it’s important to check the peak months for the region to which you are considering travel. Many places have very cold or very warm months, so getting the most out of your vacation means going when it’s most temperate. The great thing about the Bahamas is that it’s a tropical region, meaning that it’s close to the equator and enjoys great weather for the entire year. But, there are months where more tourists come to the Bahamas and other considerations for best times to visit.
The Busy Season in The Bahamas
The busy season is June thru September, which is due to higher temps and because many families like to travel to the Bahamas and it’s summer break. Summertime means the daily temps will be around 85 degrees with relatively high humidity (remember, it’s tropical!). This is perfect beach weather, great for wearing your swimsuit and taking a dip in the ocean.
Expect tourist attractions to be bustling during the busy season. It is also important to book your excursions well ahead of time, because they fill up quickly. However, if you are traveling by cruise, this is less of a concern, because the cruise has secured their bookings with local excursion companies and attractions. So, you essentially have automatically reserved spaces for excursions if you are cruising.
The official hurricane season in the Bahamas is actually during part of the peak months, from June to November. However, the mainland gets more hurricanes than the Bahamas, so there isn’t a major risk for your vacation there.
The Off Season in The Bahamas
The official “off-season” in the Bahamas is from November to May, which is also the rainy season. The average temperatures in the Bahamas, during the off-season, are still in the 70s, with few days dipping into the 60s. However, evenings and morning hours may be in the mid to low 60s.
Crowds will be greatly reduced during the off-season and excursions much easier to book. In fact, you may find that you are able to access the best prices on hotel, cruises, excursions, and all travel packages during the off-season.
Off-Season Perks
- DISCOUNT TOURS & ACTIVITIES– some tour fares are as much as 20% lower, and individual excursion fares may be reduced from 5% to 10%.
- NO CROWDS– no busy beaches or packed pools, you may even enjoy the beach to yourself
- OFF- SEASON SALES– resort boutiques often feature summer sales to keep afloat during slower months
- SEE MORE WITH LESS– gift yourself a bonus activity from the off season savings
- MEETING LOCALS– traveling off-season is a better way to meet the locals and experience the island life as they do
The Best Weather in Bahamas
When you plan a Bahamas vacation, it is likely because you want to enjoy some fun in the sun. With an average of 300 days of sun each year, odds are in your favor that even if you travel during the off-season, most, if not all, of your days will be hot and sunny. If you don’t enjoy high humidity, visit during the off-season, but if you enjoy the heat, travel June thru September.
No matter when you travel, stay safe. Keep hydrated and wear UV protective clothing and lots of sunscreen. Spending your vacation fighting a raging sunburn and heat stroke is no fun.
